If you sell or install AC chargers in Europe, you already know two things: safety compliance is non-negotiable, and grid capacity is often tight. We've updated our European-standard wallbox range — the ZB04, ZB09, and ZB13 (7kW, 11kW, 22kW) — with built-in PEN fault protection as standard, plus optional DLM/DLB for sites that need load management.

Here's what each one does, and why it matters for your projects.

PEN Protection: Built In, Not Bolted On

In many European countries, especially the UK, buildings are supplied via a combined Protective Earth and Neutral conductor — a PEN system. Under normal conditions, it works fine.

The risk comes when that conductor is damaged or disconnected upstream. The metal body of a connected vehicle can become live. Standard RCDs won't catch this, because the fault sits on the earth side of the circuit.

Our chargers now include integrated PEN fault detection inside the unit. The system monitors the supply continuously. If it detects a fault, it disconnects the live and neutral conductors — typically within milliseconds — before anyone can come into contact with an energised vehicle.

For installers, this usually means no external earth electrode is needed, which saves time and material on site. And it helps you meet local wiring requirements without adding extra hardware.

DLB for Homes, DLM for Commercial Sites — Available as an Option

Many European properties have limited grid connections. A typical single-phase home might have 25A or 32A total. Add a 7kW charger alongside an oven or heat pump, and you risk tripping the main breaker.

To address this, our chargers can be configured with load management. It comes in two forms:

  • Dynamic Load Balancing (DLB) — for single-family homes. This is implemented through hardware — typically CT clamps or a smart meter connected to the charger. The charger reads household consumption and adjusts its output accordingly. If the oven turns on, charging slows down. When demand drops, it speeds back up.

  • Dynamic Load Management (DLM) — for multi-charger sites like apartment blocks, office car parks, and fleet depots. This is implemented through software. The system distributes available capacity across multiple chargers, so you can install more units on the same connection without expensive grid upgrades.

Both DLB and DLM are available as an option — you choose whether to include them based on your project requirements. For projects with solar, the system can also be configured to prioritise surplus PV power, a feature that's increasingly expected in DACH and Benelux markets.

Built for White-Label and Commercial Procurement

All three models — ZB04, ZB09, and ZB13 — support tethered or socket configurations, 7kW to 22kW output, and OCPP 1.6J (upgradable to OCPP 2.0.1). That means they plug into your existing CPO platform without extra gateways or proprietary lock-in.
